Feast of Fields, Sean Karemaker

November 25, 2018 to March 27, 2019 at Kafka’s Great Northern Way

Local illustrator Sean Karemaker is noted for his autobiographical comics. Hyperallergic remarks that Karemaker’s work “frequently challenges us to ditch our own biases about what comics should be, he marks a territory that’s distinctly his own.”

Karemaker’s comics often begin as long scrolls, recalling the unfurling storytelling format dating back centuries. This exhibit presents the original scrolls that have since been published as the book, Feast of Fields, a narrative that traces the experience of Karemaker’s mother growing up in Denmark orphanage.
